North Star Public School, NSW
Mural completed at North Star Public School after five days of painting in October 2024. The mural brightens up a restroom block and reflects the vibrant local community. To create it, the artist collaborated with local farmers and conservationists, Tim and Kerrie Hayes, who shared valuable information about birdlife and the critically endangered Pale imperial hairstreak butterfly, native to the old-growth brigalow forests in North Star. This butterfly is fascinating due to its unique symbiotic relationship with ants, which protect its caterpillars in exchange for a sweet secretion. Tim and Kerrie have played a key role in conserving the brigalow forest, supporting species like this butterfly.
